"The Colgate Symposium motivated me to follow my dream and loving more my chosen course." - Ginaly Asentista, student
Having Dentistry as your chosen track is very difficult, you will encounter several obstacles before you can finally achieve your goals of being a dentist. As a dentist, you need to have your psychomotor and dexterity skills enhanced to become effective and successful. You will also need to have the willingness to serve and have an enormous interest in social welfare. Dr. Arturo de Leon, one of the speakers of the forum, stated that being a good dentist is being sensitive to patients´ needs. He utterly emphasized the value and the quality of rendering "good service" to people. In his lecture, he gave meaning to the theme 360º with the acronyms: THREE (Towards Harmonious Relationship En route to Excellence quality work), SIX (Service Is Exciting) and ZERO (Zestfully Endeavoring to Reach Out). He also gave rise to the acronym PDA which defines as the Professionally Delivered Altruism. If Confucius´ Golden Rule stated that we must not do unto others what we don´t want others do unto us, Dr. de Leon´s Platinum Rule ordered; "Do unto others what others want to do unto their selves." In summary for the first lecture, Dr. de Leon encouraged everyone to make Dentistry a profession and "Live It Like A Calling (LILAC - the universal color of Dentistry)".
The iconic Dr. Eufracio de Jesus, Former Dean of the College of Dentistry in DMSF, was the next speaker in the forum. Dr. de Jesus enlightened everyone by sharing his experiences from his humble beginnings as a student until becoming a successful dentist and a legendary patriot in the field of Dentistry. He taught all to be more responsible in our profession. He also pointed out that in able to be successful, one must SET GOALS, must believe in HONESTY and HARDWORK, and must have good TIME MANAGEMENT.
"Dr. Eufracio´s experience was very inspirational. There were lots of helpful tips for us, and personally, it helped me as I deal with things especially now that our course is getting more difficult." - Anonymous
It was a very great experience and opportunity for students to have attended the forum. Knowing more about the remarkable people behind the success of Dentistry is indeed a great pleasure. The program was indeed a huge success not just by imparting knowledge to the students but also from receiving tokens from Colgate-Palmolive.
"The symposium is informative. The inputs were superb." - Hervie Halipa, student.
To all Dentistry students, let us be equipped. Let us do well in service, let us take the challenge, embrace the risk, let us give smiles to our fellowmen, and let us stand together for a one aim and one commitment: "Magiging Tapat Akong Dentista, Pangakong Dapat Asahan".
The program wouldn´t be complete without the presence of the following people: the speakers, Dr. Arturo de Leon and Dr. Euphracio de Jesus; the Deans, Dr. Erna H. Dimaya (DMSF), and Dr. Sara Jane Importante (MMFC). The important people from Colgate Palmolive Phils., Inc., Ms. Jac Saez-Abadia (Oral Health Program Manager) and Dr. Lloyd Denia; Dr. Gary M. Batiller, Asst. Dean of the College of Dentistry, DMSF; the DMSF College of Dentistry Faculty members, Dr. Rolando Ryan Oringo and Dr. Maria Rory Tumanda.
"Be the master of your career, be of service, and be a Dentist." - Dr. Arturo de Leon, Dean of the University of Fatima and Special Adviser of PADC
